Timoleon Kosmides

Timoleon Kosmides is an Ass. Professor in Civil Law at the Faculty of law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

At the same time, he is an Adj. Professor (Lehrbeauftragter) at the Law Faculty of the University of Munich as well as the University of Macedonia (Greece), an assoc. Editor of OGEL (Oil, Gas & Energy Law Intelligence) and an Attorney at law at the Supreme Court of Greece (member of the Thessaloniki Bar Association).

He is an honors graduate of the School of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds a master’s degree (with highest honors) in European and International Economic Law from the Law Faculty of the University of Munich and a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) from the same Law Faculty.

He worked as an academic assistant at the University of Munich. He also was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich as well as an academic assistant at the same Institute.

He was awarded many prizes from several German Institutions, among others from the Law Faculty of the University of Munich, the German Foundation of Law and Informatics (DSRI), the German Association of Law and Informatics (DGRI) as well as the Alumni and Friends’ Association of the Law Faculty of the University of Munich. During his studies and research activity he received scholarships from the Max Planck Institute, the Fritz-Thyssen Foundation, the DAAD as well as the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation and the Research Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

He has been invited to teach as Visiting Professor at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (China), at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico) and the Koç University (Turkey).

His main scientific fields of interest are:

  • Greek and German Civil Law
  • European Private Law
  • Energy Law, with particular focus on Oil and Gas Law
  • Information Technology Law
